2 intricately carved figure of a recumbent water buffalo and a farm boy riding it to the work in the field. The carving goes back to China’s farming heritage. The wood is hard, heavy and has a reddish color. There is much hand work with facial features, clothing and even the hair on the water buffalo. The water buffalo has realistic glass eyes. Even the underside has been finished showing the hoof marks. I love the thin rope carving that goes from the buffalo’s mouth to the boy.
