1865 Smedley''s Arundel Rare Antique Book

1865 Smedley''s Lewis Arundel Fine Half Leather Gilt Binding Rare Antique Book

Here is a very special antique volume of the 1865 edition of Smedley''s ''Lewis Arundel'' or ''The Railroad of Life'' in a beautiful dark royal blue Fine Half-Leather Gilt Victorian Binding with marbled paper boards, fore-edge and end papers.

Provenance:

On the first page is found the signed name "Eldon" and the stamped symbols of the house of Eldon (being a portcullis and chains, anchor and belaureled shield, with the motto: "sit sine labe decus") at the time this book was published, this would have been the 3rd Earl of Eldon, John Scott (I have included pictures of him, a portrait as a young man and photo of him shortly after his wife''s death in 1921) he was the third in a long line of John Scotts, whose firstborn male descendants have all held the title of Earl of Eldon. His Grandfather, the first Earl, also served as Lord Chancellor for more than 20 years of his life. 1865 Smedley1865 Smedley1865 Smedley1865 Smedley1865 Smedley1865 Smedley1865 Smedley1865 Smedley
